ICT-based systems for Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) provide support for communication, education, and efficient execution of daily activities for persons with complex communication needs and may increase their social inclusion. These systems are also aimed for family members, educators and therapist of persons with complex communication needs.
Furthermore, social inclusion based on information and communication technology (ICT) is an important theme of the "Digital Agenda" and one of the major initiatives set up by the European Union (EU) to implement the objectives of the “Europe 2020" strategy aimed at smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. Croatian scientists gathered in the consortium of four constituents of the University of Zagreb – Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, Faculty of Graphic Arts and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences collaborate on the multidisciplinary project financed by the European Union that addresses both of these challenges.
The seminar will present project "ICT Competence Network for Innovative Services for Persons with Complex Communication Needs" (ICT-AAC, http://www.ict-aac.hr) whose objective is research and development (R&D) in the field of innovative information and communication services for persons with complex communication needs (CCN). Final project beneficiaries are inclusive preschools, primary and secondary educational institutions, social welfare institutions, specialized hospitals and polyclinics, specialized day-care centers and other (non-)governmental organization with interest in people with CCN in Croatia.
Short biography:
Željka Car, Ph.D. is with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing of the University of Zagreb where she works as an associate professor at the Department of Telecommunications. She received Ph.D. (2001) and M.Sc. (1996) degrees from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb. She initiated national multidisciplinary research in the area of ICT-based systems for augmentative and alternative communication for persons with complex communication needs. Her research interest includes software engineering in telecommunications, focusing particularly on an innovative ICT solutions in the area of e-accessibility and e-inclusion; project management, software process engineering and telecommunications value added services.
