A Case-Based Retrieval System for Post-operative Pain Management

Publication Type:

This paper presents a clinical decision support system based on case-base retrieval approach for physicians in their decision making tasks in post-operative pain treatment. Here, the cases are formulated by combining questions with numerical visual analog scale (NVAS) data and ordinary one and the system retrieves most similar cases with outcomes. The outcome of each case brings benefits for the physicians since it presents both the severity and the fast recovery by the applied treatment in post operative patients. We use a two layered case structure that better suits this medical application. The solution is the first layer and outcome the second. The solution is the treatment and the outcome is the recovery of the patient, something a physician is especially interested in, especially the risk of side effects and complications
