Omar acts as a reviewer in the following conferences

  • The International Conference on Systems ICONS

Omar participated in the organization of the following conferences:

  • ASE 2014: The 29th IEEE/ACM International Conference on Automated Software Engineering. Held in Västerås, Sweden [Local support]

Many safety critical systems are subject to compulsory or advisory certification process in accordance with domain specific safety standard (e.g., ISO 26262, IEC 61508, DO178C, ARP 4761). Omar's research focuses on different challenges related to safety certification in safety critical embedded systems (e.g., automotive and aerospace systems). One of these challenges is maintaining the documented and communicated safe performance of these systems (i.e., safety case = safety arguments + safety evidence) upon system changes. Omar's research involves the utilisation of safety contracts and sensitivity analysis to design new techniques that facilitate the maintainability of safety cases due to system changes. Safety contracts are also utilised to enable through-life safety assurance by monitoring and detecting any potential mismatch between the design safety assumptions and the actual behaviour of the system during its operational phase.

Future research interests:
• Safety contract-based approaches for embedded systems
• Change management and safety assurance
• Machine Learning and safety challenges
• Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) & Autonomous Systems and safety assurance
