Mohammad Ashjaei, Associate Professor, Docent

About me: I am a senior lecturer at Mälardalen University (MDH) working at the Networked and Embedded Systems department. I am affiliated with the Complex Real-Time Embedded Systems (CORE) and the Heterogeneous Systems - Hardware Software Co-design (HERO) research groups. I have received my PhD degree in Computer Science and Engineering from MDH in November 2016, and after that until April 2020 I was an associate researcher at MDH. My doctoral dissertation is on resource reservation for industrial switched Ethernet networks.

Research: Since May 2020 I am a senior lecturer at MDH in the area of data communication for embedded systems. My main focus of research is on resource reservation in communication, where the communication can be in different context, such as automation networks, automotive networks, as well as cloud and fog communication infrastructures. I am also interested in predictability analysis, design configuration, dynamic and adaptive configurations, and software development of real-time communication networks in various domains. I am working in different research projects, such as developing predictable vehicle software utilizing time-sensitive networking (DESTINE), Federated Choreography of an Integrated Embedded Systems Software Architecture (FIESTA), Predictable Software Development in Connected Vehicles Utilising Blended TSN-5G Networks (PROVIDENT), Integrated Time Sensitive Networking and Legacy Communications in Predictable Vehicle Platforms (INTERCONNECT), Future Factories in the Cloud (FiC), and  XPRES. My role in DESTINE, FIESTA, PROVIDENT, INTERCONNECT is mostly on developing solutiosn to efficiently use TSN technologies for various domains, e.g., vehicular and automation domains, as well as to integrat TSN networks with other networks, such as 5G and legacy communications. My role in FiC and XPRES is on developing novel techniques to provide reservation of network resources.

Teaching: Besides research I am teaching topics related to data communications in various bachelor and master courses. I am teaching distance courses in computer networks. I also have lectures in embedded systems courses, such as data communication for embedded systems, embedded systems I, embedded systems II, and distance course in IoT fundamentals. I have also given several guest lectures in Porto University, Aveiro University, Eindhoven University of Technology and Volvo Construction Equipment.

Community services: I was a visiting researcher at Aveiro University in Portugal in 2013. During that time I have also visited Porto University in Portugal. I was a reviewer and subreviewer for many prominent journals and conferences including RTS, TII, TIE, WFCS, RTCSA, RTSS and ETFA.
