Van-Lan Dao, Doctoral student

Van-Lan Dao is a Ph.D. student at the Data Communication Group, School of Innovation, Design, and Engineering, Malardalen University, Västerås, Sweden. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical and electronic engineering and automation and control engineering from the Le Quy Don Technical University, Ha Noi, Vietnam, in 2011 and 2016, respectively. From 2011 to April 2018, he worked as a lecturer at the Le Quy Don Technical University, in Vietnam. He has been a Visiting Researcher with the University of Electro-Communications, Tokyo, Japan for two months in 2017 to design a Beat sensor for various applications such as smart agriculture, smart home, etc. He worked with several industrial companies before doing a Ph.D. in Sweden. In 2021, he had a collaboration with an industrial partner, Robot Technology - Danish Technological Institute in Denmark. He also collaborates with ABB colleagues to work on indoor positioning and anomaly detection applications using machine learning.

Lan has also been involved in the following courses:

DVA238 - Datacommunication for embedded system 2 (2020) as a lab assistant.
DVA258 - Datacommunication for embedded system 1 (2021) as a lab assistant.
DVA120 - Computer Networks I (2022) as a lab assistant.

Lan’s research interests include embedded system design for Internet of Things (IoT), wireless sensor networks (WSN) and wireless body area networks (WBAN), hardware security, digital VLSI/ASIC design and FPGA-based system hardware design, non-orthogonal multiple access, timely and reliable communication for wireless networks under security requirements, meta-heuristic optimization, convex optimization, and machine learning to solve the given problems.
