Luiz Giacomossi, Doctoral student


Luiz Giacomossi Jr. is a Ph.D. Student in Computer Science at Mälardalens Universitet (MDU), Västerås, Sweden, specializing in embedded systems, artificial intelligence, and autonomous UAVs. He holds an M.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the Aeronautics Institute of Technology (ITA), Brazil, and a Postgraduate degree in Software Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina (UCA). He earned his B.Sc. in Control and Automation Engineering from the Federal University of Technology—Paraná, Brazil.

He has extensive experience in embedded software engineering, having worked on the development of electronic control unit (ECU) software for diesel engines, propulsion systems, and aftertreatment technologies at Volvo Group Trucks Technology at the Powertraing Engeneering departament. He has also contributed to AI-driven autonomous systems through his research in Embraer, including work on high-fidelity drone simulators and cooperative decision-making for UAV swarms for both civilian and military applications.

As a researcher, Luiz has contributed to projects in autonomous systems, machine learning for aerial robotics, and multi-agent decision-making. His expertise includes model-based development using MATLAB/Simulink, ROS 2, C/C++, and Python. He has published his research in many international conferences and journals such as IEEE Access, IEEE LARS, ICAS, and EMBRAER’s AI and Data Science symposium.

His research interests include Aerial Robotics, Autonomous Systems, Real-Time Embedded Systems, Cooperative Decision-Making, and UAV swarm intelligence.
