Jakob Axelsson, Professor

Jakob Axelsson received an M.Sc. from Linköping University in 1993, and a Ph.D. in 1997 for a thesis on hardware/software codesign of real-time systems. He has been working at ABB Corporate Research and ABB Power Generation (now Alstom) in Baden, Switzerland, Volvo Technological Development (now Volvo Technology), Carlstedt Research & Technology, and Volvo Car Corporation, all in Göteborg, Sweden. He is currently professor in software and systems engineering at Mälardalen University in Västerås.He is also with RISE in Stockholm, where he is a senior research leader in systems-of-systems engineering.

Jakob Axelsson is responsible for the MSc level course DVA479 Systems-of-Systems Engineering, which is an online course that is part of MDU's life-long learning portfolio. He is also responsible for the PhD course FOID007 Systems, Cybernetics and Complexity.

Jakob Axelsson's current research interests are primarily related to the development of systems-of-systems. This includes cyber-physical systems and Internet of Things; software engineering; system architecture; modeling techniques; and analysis of risks, safety, and business aspects. Particular emphasis is placed on systemic issues, and a systems engineering approach is used.
